Happily Ever Johnson: Wedding Dresses

I'm so excited to be posting about this. I've been asked a lot when I was going to start shopping for my wedding dress. I wanted to wait until I had my venue booked to start looking. Depending on where ceremony and reception was going to held is how I was going to base the wedding dress shopping on. I did a little research on first time wedding dress shopping and found some great tips. The most important thing is to know your budget! You don't want to fall in love with a dress you can't afford. The consultant does ask what your budget is and your max that you would want to spend. It helps to have some idea of what you want and to bring pictures from Pinterest or the Internet to help the consultant get an idea of what you like and don't like. I have so many pictures saved on Pinterest of dresses I like. Another tip was to keep the makeup at a minimum. You don't want to get foundation all over the dresses you are trying on. I skipped the foundation and just wore mascara, some liner, filled in my brows and a lip gloss. Its helps to bring shoes with you and wear a strapless bra. Some bridal places do provide you with one if you forget or don't have one. Also I read not to bring too many people to the appointment with you. I know I didn't want too many people at the appointment with me. Everyone has their opinion on what you should wear but at the end of the day, it is your day and you will be the one in the dress.

For my first appointment, I took the moms with me. I know they have been waiting for this day. I did a little research on my own for local bridal shops in my area and went to a place called the Bridal Garden. The consultant I had for my appointment was so helpful and very nice. She understood what I was looking for and pulled a lot of great choices for me. Funny thing is the moms kinda took over the appointment but they meant well. They were taking so many pictures and asking to pose this way, look that way, don't move, it was too funny. Before the appointment, I had in mind that I wanted a mermaid or trumpet style. Since we are doing a destination wedding, I had to look for a dress that was going to be lightweight and perfect for the beach ceremony. I was kind of thrown off because we changed venues but I loved everything about wedding dress shopping. I didn't want to decide at my first appointment but got an idea on what style looks good on me, what fabric to look for and so on. Here are a couple pictures from the first appointment,

I recently went with one of my bridesmaids to look at dresses. She has been through this process before so it was helpful to have her there. I tried on so many different styles and found myself to like styles outside of mermaid and trumpet. She also tried on some bridesmaid dresses as well so I can get an idea of what I liked and didn't like, I guess that will be in another post. Here is a dress I tried on from that appointment.

I still want to look around at a few more places before making a final decision. It seems like it would be hard to pick the dress but I have an idea on what I envision myself wearing on our big day. What was your experience with shopping for wedding dresses? Any tips? Comment below and let me know. See you guys Thursday!

Have you checked out my previous post from my series On a personal note??

  1. You look beautiful in all the dresses you tried on Drea! These dresses are so pretty!

    1. Thank you so much Pilar! Hopefully it won't be hard deciding on one.

  2. I think the second dress is really fun for a destination wedding. I really like the last lace dress. I would definitely would say take your time picking out a dress. I brought too many people with me and kinda jumped at the first dress everyone across the board loved. I did really love my dress in general I just feel like I couldnt have found a better dress that fit me like a glove. The alterations weren't great and my strapless bra showed a ton in pics.

    1. Everyone seems to like that second dress. The fabric on the bottom was too heavy, especially for a beach wedding. Thanks Tanya!!

  3. All the dresses are beautiful but I love the first and second one.

  4. I love all the dresses on you! The mermaid/ trumpet style really shows your curves. Wow I didn't think there's a lot to make notes of before and during wedding shopping! Thanks for sharing all this. Can't wait to read more.

Book Review: Dreams Are Built Overnight

Can't believe my birthday is next week, next Monday to be exact! I just want to have a nice, relaxing day. Today I am bringing you another book review (I know, two in one week lol)!

I have to say, I really proud of this guy and everything that he is doing now. I actually went to elementary school with David and he was a pretty cool person(and still is lol). Before this book, he started a company called Sleep Is 4 Suckers which sells apparel with a message behind it. David also expanded into motivational speaking and is a pretty dynamic speaker. I really wanted to support him and read this book because I was really drawn to the title of it.

I honestly did not want to put this book down when I started reading it. I read this book every free moment I had because I really wanted this information to sink in. You can really visualize what David is saying in this book and really picture the message he sharing. He really does drop a lot of amazing knowledge, tips and advice in this book.

Happily Ever Johnson: Registries, Rings and Things

It is crazy how fast this wedding is approaching! I can't believe it is almost February and June will be here before we know it! We have done so much with wedding planning and trying to make sure we have everything covered. First we started with finishing our registries. We started them but it just didn't feel complete. Earlier this month we attended a Sip and Scan event at Macy's. They had representatives from different brands such as Mikasa, Kitchen Aid and All Clad to answer any questions about products and to help you pick out the things you would like to put on your registry. They had a DJ there, passed hors o'derves and mocktails.

Here we are with the scanner having registry fun lol

We didn't have our formal or everyday dinnerware on the registry and finally picked those out. It was hard trying to decide what to go with. For everyday, I was looking for something that was durable since we have a 5 year old and dishware that was going to last. For our formal di…
